Before joining Atlanta Oral & Facial Surgery, Dr. John P LaBanc, CAPT retired, USN, was the Program Director for Pre-doctoral oral and maxillofacial surgery in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery/Hospital Dentistry at the University of Michigan Medicine.
Biography
Upon completion of his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital-Dallas, TX in 1985, Dr. LaBanc began his career in academics. At the University of Florida in Gainesville he quickly became a recognized national and international expert and researcher in the microneurosurgical repair of trigeminal nerve injuries, craniofacial reconstructive surgery, and facial aesthetic surgery.
Dr. LaBanc transitioned from academics into the U. S. Navy in 1998. He narrowed his scope of practice to orthognathic surgery and facial aesthetic surgery. It was during his first deployment to Iraq that he discovered a passion for operational trauma systems and care. He subsequently served as a consultant to the Navy Health Research Institute focusing on maxillofacial injuries and forward resuscitative care. He is also an internationally recognized expert in humanitarian assistance/disaster response, combat trauma care and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. LaBanc is also a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of OMS and a diplomat for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. LaBanc practices out of the Sugar Hill office and the Sugarloaf office.
